Hells Bells! It's February already.
This month we have the regulars on, Clint, Pete Shaw's TcupHead, Dom Murphy, and Mihael Parris.

First up then was Clint on Thursday 1st Feb. Clint has been coming to the Buskers night for some time now and those who have seen him will know he is very good at the old Richard Ashcroft/Verve style of singing. Amongst songs covered on the night were, Oasis's Lyla, & Radioheads Street Spirit. Kev laid down some nice licks for a couple of songs too.

Thursday 8th Feb
Pete Shaw, another of our regulars, came along with his band, TCupHead. Most of the songs which the band play are penned by Pete. Tonight was a little unusual for us as not only did we have a drummer, we had a percussionist and bassist too. Dom Murphy, (who is filling the spotlight next week) looked after the drums, John gave us some nice sounds on the Congas, Andrew gave us the bass and of course Pete covered the guitar and lead vocals.
Andrew fills the vocals out nicely with his harmonies and plays some really nice bass riffs on his 6 string bass. Dom is superb on drums and John really fits in well with his percussion fills. The band are playing a full gig here in a few weeks time - keep an eye out for them.

As per usual, we had difficulty finding time to get everyone up by closing time, but we did it. Nice to see Mark and Gary along near the end. The Buskers here was started by these lads back in 1840 (give or take a year or two) with a little help from me on vocals, so I was happy to get them up to do a couple of songs with Kirsty who has an exceptional voice.

15th Feb 2007 - Dom Murphy

Dom is now a regular at the Tavern nights and is a welcome one at that! One of the area's better drummers, he is a brilliant singer and guitarist - obviously, he has far too much time on his hands! One of the things I like about Dom is that you get away from the safe folky type ballads which often pervade gigs such as this. Songs covered tonight included Breakout & My Hero by the Foo Fighters, Bleed American by Jimmy Eat World, as well as covers of The Alkaline Trio and others - as I said, not your safe folky covers. Oh, and his vocals were brilliant through out despite a bit of a cold. |
