Well, we have got the Christmas and New Year out of the way and everyone was gaging for the buskers to get back into it's swing in full. So, we got off to a good start wiff Der Free Amigos - aka Geordie, Mr Zak and of course Steve Hill.
George is a well known and respected player in the area and tonight he was assisted by the rather excellent Steve Hill on guitar and Zak on bongo's and backing vocals.

Amongst the songs covered tonight were Slip Sliding Away, the Paul Simon number, I Don't wanna Talk About It, with Zak backing on vocals, Harvest Moon, Black Magic Woman. Steve puts down some rather nice backing licks on both the electric and acoustic guitar throughout the set complimenting Georgie quite nicely thank you. Zak did some nice backing vocals at times too.

After a 30 minute set, we started the Buskers section, and we only just got everyone up to play before time was called. The big baldy bloke in the picture above came all the way from Portsmouth so we have to give him a quick mention - hope all is ok with you Jon.
Below are a few other pictures of the night, which by the way, is now held in the larger of the rooms at the Tavern and seems to be prefered by everyone.

This last photo is of the previous week (with the Christmas tree still in full bloom) with Dom doing his thing and backed by Craig on lead clapping.........

The 18th was supposed to the turn of our local Beatles aficionado (for the hard of thinking this means devotee, enthusiast, fanatic, fan, addict, admirer). Not that all he plays is Beatles stuff, but there ain't that many Beatles things Jonny doesn't know how to play. Unfortunately, the bugger didn't turn up (he did phone the day before though) so we ran the buskers from a slightly earlier time instead. Having had a drink or two, I forgot to get the camera out till late on so all I have is a few girlie pictures (not that sort of girlie pictures!)

Thursday 25th Jan 2007 - Chris & James
This week was the turn of Chris and the guitarist from his band (Cut Glass Accent) James. I enjoyed this set, with the lads doing a fair old cross section of songs from accoustic versions of their own material to covers of other stuff which I can't remember as I was busy drinking at the time. Actually, I aslo forgot to take any pictures because I was drinking - hmmm, do you see a theme here.
The lads both played guitar and both did a bit of singing. One of the songs covered was Tribute by Tenacious D and this went down well with a lot of the younger audience especially. Covers of songs by Jimmy Eat World, Johnny Cash, and the old classic House of the Rising Sun were also well received. Their band, Cut Glass Accent, have a couple of cd's out and James and Chris also did acoustic versions of 3 or 4 of those too. All in all, not a bad little set.
