Chris Bradley’s noted ‘projecto-voice’ talents were then displayed when he performed “House of the Rising Sun”, making it his own, (helped by a little electric guitar backing from Zak) and “Mad World”, a haunting presentation with those vocals shining through.
Zac then displayed the beautiful 1972 Gibson Les Paul with his rendition of “Love Hurts” and the evening continued true to form with others taking the floor to do their own thing. George, Clint and Claire followed.
My particular favourite tonight was Pete Shaw. Pete has an incredible rhythm style on guitar, amazing speed and accuracy driving the point of his performances home. His lyric (which I hope he doesn’t mind me printing here) “Who needs a girlfriend, I’ve an Xbox 360 and a shed load of porn on DVD?!” is original and funny, as was the rest of the song.
Claire’s rendition of “Stay Tonight” was also memorable. I’ve seen her sing only a couple of times but there is something about her voice which is captivating. More of this please!
Mark Cocking Nov 2006
Over the last 3 weeks of the year, we didn’t put on a spotlight artist. Usually, of course, this time of year is very busy and Christmas 2006 was no different. As a consequence, there are usually too many people wanting to get up and play so we give it a miss.
Come the new year we will be starting up the spotlight part of the evening again with George Rosenthal and friends doing the honours on Thursday 11th.
Here are a few pictures from the holiday period – hope you enjoy them.
