@ Bar 38

Three bands are on show tonight – Mid Term Break, Forgotten Roots and Trip-Dash
First up were
Mid Term Break
from the Sunderland area.
The band comprise of Callum Cowie who did the guitar and vocals, Graham Short who did the bass and a bit of vocals and on the drums was James Anderson.
The band have had a fair bit of experience gig wise – if their myspace account is anything to go off & they played a complete set of their own songs, amongst them were:
Mr. Right Standing right here I wish She’s gone I don’t want you no more Bad thoughts Things we went through Hard to breathe Please understand & Any day (both of which can be heard on their myspace account)
The band can be found at the usual myspace place www.myspace.com/midtermbreak1 Contact cowie182@hotmail.co.uk
High points - some canny songs for such a young band
Low points – need a bit of work on their timing

Next up were
Forgotten Roots.
The ‘froots’ have been around for a while now and brought along a bit of a following.
The band are a 4 piece and are made up of Mark who does a bit of guitar and yelling, Grem who does a bit of the same, Simon (bass) who also likes a bit of a yell & Tony on drums, who is the nosiest of all, but strangely, doesn’t do any yelling.
If you like poppy punky stuff with a bit of a floor show, the ‘froots’ should be good for you. They ran through a few of their own stuff, but amongst it were crowd pleasers such as 'American Idiot', 'I Fought the Law and the Law Won' and 'Private eye'.
There were a few members of other bands there too so the ‘froots’ also covered Black Mother Cap’s Addict.
With a little help from a few members of the crowd, namely Craig from Black Mother Cap (seen right dressed as Dennis the Menace), Chris from Cut Glass Accent and Jonny from Tripdash, they seemed to keep folk happy.
High points – nice tight team, plenty of stuff to watch
Low points – too much fannying on between songs deciding what to play next.

Last but certainly not least, we had
Tripdash!
This four piece play a simple straight forward format of Vocalist, Bassist, Drummer and Guitarist – nice and easy for the soundman.
The bands frontman is Jonny. Jonny is certainly energetic and moves around the stage like he owns the place and seemed happy to be using a cordless mike on the night.
Matt is a very accomplished guitarist which can be heard plainly on their first track ‘Are we still the same’ (check it out on www.myspace.com/tripdash ) and ‘Clicks’.
The drummer, Chad (who is an exceptional drummer) and the bassman Steve make for a great rhythm section and fill the sound out nicely.
The band have a website which they are busy building – www.tripdash.co.uk – check it out.
Other songs played on the night were:
Mary Whitehouse Is Dead Mr Patriot High Expectations Redlight Not Like You The Strength of Meaning
High points – can’t complain about the visual side or the bands skills and they came knowing exactly what the set list was going to be.
Low points – not a lot really.
My only compaint was that some b*****d nicked one of my SM58 mikes at the beginning of the night which is a bit harsh considering that the whole idea of the night is to help bring bands on in the music arena. If anyone has any idea where it ended up, I would be very grateful for it's return................
