This weeks gig couldn't have been more stressful! Firstly, Castro had to cancell at the last minute, and due to a communication cock up 21 Down nearly didn't turn up either. The mixing desk developed a problem which cut off all the effects as well.
However, once again, we had a brilliant night. As the Castro problem had been a last minute thing, we decided to ask Libby to do a solo acoustic set, which although totally different to the 2 other bands, worked ut as quite a nice contrast.
Libby hails from the Newbiggin area of Northumberland is is quite a talented lady (her cd was reviewed by Mark Cocking some time back and can be found elsewhere on the site). The set fitted in (time wise)quite nicely with Libby doing 9 songs in total - 8 of her own compositions and a cover of the Corrs 'I never loved you anyway'.
The other songs played were:
Music Industry I Know Battlestations I see you Don't take it Dickhead Window The way I dream
Next up were
Junkster!
Junkster have been on the circuit for some time and featured on our NE-Music CD 'Work In Progress' which we compiled some months ago. 4 very talented musicians, I couldn't say that I noticed a dropped note or beat - certainly a good solid tight band.

The Juksters left a few well printed flyers advertising thier up and coming gigs around the venue - a good marketing tool.
The band is fronted by Peesh who also wrote all of the tranks played tonight. Peesh plays guitar and does the lead vocals with the lead guitar position being covered by Sav. Bass is played by Neil who came across as anexcelent backing vocalist too. The sticks man is Mark who is, as they say, cock on timing wise and power wise.
The lads also offered free cds on the night

All in all, a good heavy, meaty full sound from the band.
Songs played:
Off my Head Yeah Yeah Yeah ????? Bleeding 4 U Spider Wake Up Britain Promises & Burning Nation
Catch them at www.junksterrock.co.uk and of course at their myspace account. Gigs booked already include, 4th Nov at Ashington Central, Nov 10th at The Famous Cavern Club in Liverpool and Nov 30th sees them at Bubbles in Ashington.
Our thanks also go to the lads for the use of their backline and drumkit
Finally, up came 21 Down (forgive the pun)
These lads are from a little further south than the 2 previous acts (some of the band are from Sunderland, but we won't hold that against them).
I liked these lads - a bit of Fall Out Boy sound there as well as others - definately a modern sound.
The band are:
Gareth Richards: Guitar / Vocals
Michael Richards: Guitar
Sam Pay: Bass / Vocals
Andrew Wilkinson: Drums
One of the things that its you with these lads is the shear power of the Drummer Andrew. He certainly pounded out the rhythm on those skins. As with Junkster, the backing vocals from the bassist were excellent which I like to see as I find it really helps to fill out a bands sound. Gareth is a good front man showing a bit of movement while playing guitar and singing.
The Songs played tonight were:
2 weeks older (21 Down) Struck Down (21 Down) Like a joke that isn't funny (21 Down) Message in a bottle (Police) Open to Conviction (21 Down) I'm Real (J-Lo) This day is the last (21 Down) Caught in the headlights (21 Down) Pullin teeth (21 Down)
Have a listen to their stuff @ www.myspace.com/21down
